Green Belt - Man Made Wonder
As part of the program to maintain the ecological balance of the area and create conditions of well being and comfort to the people of Kakinada. NFCL had drawn up plans for a Green Belt of one kilometer width to the west of the project site. The green belt extends over a kilometer with about 0.4 million trees of 170 species, a number of large water bodies with marine life, birds and animals. This is a humble tribute towards the philosophy ‘Industry in Harmony with Nature’. NFCL has implemented a comprehensive environment plan in the fertilizer plant at Kakinada, resulting in near zero pollution of air and water through treatment of chemical pollutants, recycling and effluent control. “The establishment of the Green belt is part of the proposed overall natural ecological system consisting of water bodies, animal life, bird sanctuary, fish cultures etc., for making this project a source of beauty, welfare, joy and happiness”. – KVK RAJU.
Since its inception the Group is continuing its commitment towards social responsibility and ecosystem. NFCL has converted the Green Belt into a bird paradise & animal Eden, symbols for a balanced ecosystem.
The Green Belt to the West is formed by planting select species of vegetarian of different heights, foliage and other morphological features so as to constitute a thick green leaf wall between the factory and the township. Similarly, the available land on the southern side and various free spaces in the factory area is fully planted with vegetation of various types to form an environment, congenial in all aspects.
The ecological system created in and around the plant site provides water bodies, suitably located, so that the total atmosphere is made conducive to animals, birds, fish, etc. Liquid effluent from the plant, treated to adequate levels of purity, is utilized both for sustaining vegetation and for the formation of water bodies suitable for fish culture.
The natural hindrances, in the beginning, were overcome by the combined wisdom and experience of a team of experts drawn various disciplines such as forestry, horticulture, social chemistry, Ornithology, animal and aquatic life. With all the integrated efforts, the 789 acres green belt stands as Sanctuary for many birds in this region. Migratory birds are attracted to the Green Belt as a result of a change in the waterscape from lifeless backwaters to colorful and cheerful lakes. Every November to March, as many as 25,000 migratory birds can be seen here.
The green belt apart from controlling pollution also functions as a dust curtain and wind corridor and substantially reduces the pollution effects. The planting of 400000 plants, of 170 species, over an area of 319 hectares has transformed the existing highly –saline marshy area devoid of any vegetation into a lush green arboreal park.
